What to Expect

This workshop is intense and that is no joke. It is highly physical and it is important to be prepared for it.

Classes consist of learning weapon styles, terms and techniques through demonstration, participation and application through choreography and performance. Every level is broken down into a curriculum of weapons classes, each designed to best work the skill requirements for each level. Many students find the first week over whelming so pace yourself and know that everyone on staff is there to help you to do your best.

There is a group warm up every day at the beginning but you must remember to keep yourself stretched and warm throughout the rest of the day. Every body is different and every experience is individual so be sure to take care of yourself at all times.

What to Bring

Water Bottles: Dehydration is responsible for many accidents and injuries in highly physical environments. Keep hydrated.
Snacks and Food: You will need all your mental and physical energy during this workshop. Be sure you have the fuel your brain and body need to keep going and function optimally through the days.
Clothes to Move: Bring what you would move most comfortably in because you will be moving a lot. Sport, yoga and martial arts clothing tend to work the best. Leave your belts and your jeans for outside of classes.
Footwear: As with clothing; for this workshop bring comfortable and supportive footwear for physical activity. We perform in everything but we train in the best we can.
Padding: Elbow and knee pads are highly recommended but not necessary. If you have some sport or stunt padding bring what you have.
Weapons: Weapons are provided for the workshop by FDC so you do not have to bring anything. If you have a stage weapon you wish to use for workshop classes you may bring it, But, every weapon must be approved for use in each individual class, by the residing instructor.
Paper and pens: For certification there is a written exam covering terms and techniques and notation information. This being so there is a lot of information to absorb during classes and note taking is a necessity. Bring a notebook or binder whatever your preference you WILL need it.
